Balloons, Blue Florals, and Baby Love

“A Chic Blue Floral Theme Guide”

Let me tell you, planning a baby shower is like preparing for a royal wedding—except instead of a crown, there’s a very pregnant, very emotional queen (who may or may not cry over the wrong kind of cupcakes). When I decided to throw my own Blue Floral Baby Shower, I imagined an elegant, Pinterest-worthy celebration with twinkling lights, delicate flowers, and happy guests sipping on fancy drinks. What I didn’t imagine? The mild chaos, the last-minute DIY disasters, and my husband accidentally ordering 200 blue napkins instead of 20.

But in the end, it turned out to be the most beautiful, heartfelt celebration ever. And if you’re a mama-to-be (or a friend planning one for a mama-to-be), I’m here to share everything I learned—from the perfect budget-friendly decorations to free invitation templates that will save you time, money, and maybe a few tears. So, grab a snack (or two, because pregnancy hunger is no joke), and let’s plan a baby shower that will make your guests go, “Wow, did she hire a professional?”

Finding the Perfect Place

“(And Why My Living Room Was Almost a Disaster)”

When I first started planning, I had this big, dramatic vision of a beautiful garden party with cascading blue flowers, fairy lights twinkling in the trees, and a dessert table straight out of a Martha Stewart photoshoot. Then I checked my bank account and remembered I’m not Beyoncé.

So, I had to get creative. I thought about hosting it in my backyard, but then I remembered the last time I threw an outdoor party, and a strong gust of wind sent my decorations flying into my neighbor’s pool. Not happening again. Instead, I settled on hosting it in my living room, which seemed like a cozy and practical idea… until I realized how many people I’d invited.

If your guest list is small, the living room can be a great, intimate setting. But if you have aunts, cousins, best friends, work friends, and that one neighbor you awkwardly felt obligated to invite, it might get a little cramped. That’s when I started looking at local tea houses and small event spaces. Some places even let you bring your own decorations, which is a huge win for budget-conscious moms. In the end, I made it work by rearranging furniture, using every available surface for decor, and forcing my husband to temporarily relocate his massive gaming setup. The result? A picture-perfect, elegant space that felt just right.

Decorating on a Budget

“(Because Not All of Us Have Kardashian Money)”

Let’s be honest—when you start searching for baby shower decor, you either cry at the prices or get lost in the Pinterest rabbit hole. I wanted that soft, elegant blue floral aesthetic, but I also didn’t want to spend my baby’s entire college fund on decorations.

So, I turned to my best friends: DIY, Amazon, and the dollar store.

I found gorgeous blue and white floral garlands online and draped them over the dessert table and entryway. A few Mason jars with fresh flowers made the table settings look like something out of a bridal magazine. And for that extra touch, I printed out some baby-themed quotes in fancy fonts, put them in cheap frames, and suddenly my living room looked like a high-end venue.

If you’re short on time, Etsy has adorable pre-made decorations that fit the Blue Floral theme perfectly. But honestly, the best part about DIY-ing some of the decor is that when your guests compliment you, you get to casually say, “Oh, I made that myself.” Instant mom points.

The Invitations That Saved My Sanity

“(And Why You Need These Freebies!)”

Let’s get real for a second. Have you ever searched for custom baby shower invitations? I did, and let me tell you, the sticker shock nearly knocked me out of my pregnancy glow. Some of them were going for $5 per invite! PER INVITE! Listen, I love my friends and family, but if I’m spending $5 on a single piece of paper, it better do my laundry and babysit my newborn.

That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands. After a little trial and error (and convincing my husband that yes, fonts do matter), I created my own Blue Floral Baby Shower Invitations—and honestly, they turned out so beautiful, I might frame one just for fun.

Speaking of birthday parties, we avoid to see anything basic, especially when it comes to children’s birthdays. By unusual, I mean something that isn’t typical Floral theme, but rather something like what’s in this page or something like these,  Striking Floral and Watercolor Garden Floral baby shower/birthday invitation templates.

Let’s Talk About Cake

“(And The Moment I Almost Cried in a Bakery)”

Here’s the thing about pregnancy cravings: one moment you want pickles, the next moment you NEED a very specific cake, and if you don’t get it, the world might end. I decided on a simple yet elegant white cake with delicate blue floral designs, thinking it would be easy to find.

Spoiler alert: it was not.

The first bakery I called quoted me a price that made me physically gasp. The second bakery misunderstood my order and thought I wanted a Smurfs-themed cake (not quite the vibe I was going for). And at one point, I actually considered baking it myself—until I remembered that the last cake I made looked like a deflated football.

Luckily, I found a small, local bakery that created the most gorgeous blue floral cake at a reasonable price. And for guests who didn’t want cake, I set up a dessert table with macarons, cupcakes, and cake pops in shades of blue and white. Moral of the story? Start looking early, get multiple quotes, and maybe don’t trust your husband to pick up the cake unless you explicitly show him a picture first.

Final Thoughts (And a Tiny Happy Cry Moment)

When the last guest left and my husband finished washing the 500 dessert plates we somehow used, I sat down, put my swollen feet up, and took a deep breath. The party was over. The decorations were still twinkling, the cake was mostly gone, and the living room was full of gifts, tissue paper, and a few stray confetti pieces that would probably live in my carpet forever.

But you know what? It was absolutely perfect.

Planning this baby shower had been a rollercoaster of emotions—excited, overwhelmed, exhausted, and then finally, pure joy. Seeing my closest friends and family gathered to celebrate this new life I was about to bring into the world? That was the best gift of all.

So, to all the moms planning their own baby showers, let me leave you with this: It doesn’t have to be perfect to be magical. Whether you go all out with fancy decorations or keep it cozy with a small gathering, whether you spend weeks planning every detail or throw something together last-minute—what matters most is the love and joy that fills the room.

And if you ever need a little help? Grab my free invitations, steal my ideas, and remember—this is YOUR day, mama. Enjoy every second of it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have about one million baby shower photos to look through… again.
